The Institute of Communication Studies, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University in Taiwan, is pleased to invite applications for a full-time tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor or above, beginning on February 1, 2022.

Fields:

Expertise in Information and Innovation Cross-Media Production, Interaction Design, Human-Computer Interaction / HCI, Interactive Narrative, or Virtual Production Research.

Core Specializations:

The applicant should realize how to apply theories and use technology design skills in digital curation, virtual narrative production (e.g. AR / VR / MR), and cross-media integration; with specialties in applying new media data analytics for the inquiries of user insights, accurate evaluation, and forecasting.

Planned Courses:

The applicant should be able to offer courses such as ‘Visual Communication Design’, ‘3D Animation and Virtual Reality’, ‘Cross-Media Integrated Design’, ‘User Interface and Augmented Reality’, ‘Immersive Storytelling in Virtual Reality and Performance’, ‘Data-driven Design and Application’, ‘Data Analytics in User Experience Research’, ‘Immersive Environment Research’; or other courses that can expand the new horizons in the field of New Media.

1. About the position

The Institute of Communication Studies (https://nctuicsen.webflow.io) at the Guangfu Campus, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, was established in 1991. The goal of this institute is to cultivate professions with innovative abilities and humanistic literacy. The applicant should have a passion for teaching, excellent research, and practical abilities to work collaboratively with the faculty members to engage in cross-field research or education. We want to invite scholars with research expertise from the Computer Science and Design-Related fields (or those with Human-Computer Interaction, Psychology, Information Engineering, Technology Art, and User Experience / UX research) to join our faculty.

2. Qualifications:

A. The applicant should hold a Ph.D. degree in information or HCI related disciplines or a teaching certificate of the Assistant Professor rank issued by the Ministry of Education, Republic of China (Taiwan).

B. Have published related research works before.

C.  The applicants who have offered relevant courses in colleges and departments, participated in teaching practices or research projects of relevant academics/ government/social organizations are preferred.

D. The applicant must have the ability to teach in both Chinese and English, mainly in Chinese.

3. Required documents (electronic and printed):

A.  Cover letter and curriculum vitae;

B. Photocopy of the highest degree certificate (Ph.D. candidates who have completed or passed the qualification examination and the oral examination of the dissertation but have not obtained the Ph.D. certificate will need to provide a temporary degree certificate before the deadline);

C. The highest academic transcript (exempt for teachers certified by the Ministry of Education for assistant professors or above);

D. Photocopy of the assistant professor or higher teaching certificate awarded by the Ministry of Education (exempt for those who have not obtained the teacher certificate);

E.   Employment certificate(s) (optional);

F.   Research portfolios over the years with 3-5 representative works and a summarization of current research direction and its contribution to academics and society, the long-term plans and goals in future teaching and research, and the research direction related to our institute;

G. Construct a minimum of 2 course syllabi that include the goal of the course, weekly topics, and potential material (e.g., textbooks or reading articles). Please also explain how the designed courses would be considered groundbreaking and fit the institute's research direction;

H. Two letters of recommendation;

I.    Documents of English teaching experience (optional);

J.    Additional certifications or documents for favorable opinion applications.
